Owen Wilson’s suicide attempt
US actor Owen Wilson was taken to hospital by paramedics, authorities in California confirmed today.
A number of US media outlets have speculated that the actor attempted suicide, following his recent break up with actress Kate Hudson.
In a statement released through publicist Ina Treciokas, Wilson said: “I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time.”
No further comments were expected, she said.
It was not known why he was admitted, but a neighbour said a police car, fire truck and ambulance were outside the actor’s gated house in Santa Monica yesterday at about noon.
“These guys were kind of taking their time taking a stretcher out of the ambulance, then they went into the house,” said neighbour Geoffry White, 61, who lives directly across the street from the actor.
Santa Monica Fire Battalion Chief Jose Torres said the department responded to a call that involved Owen Wilson. He said Wilson was taken to St. John’s Health Centre in Santa Monica.
A hospital spokeswoman did not immediately return phone calls. The chief would not comment on Wilson’s injuries or condition, citing federal privacy laws.
Wilson is one of Hollywood’s most popular comic actors of recent times, having starred in ‘Night at the Museum’, ‘Starsky & Hutch’, ‘Wedding Crashers’ and ‘You, Me and Dupree’.
In addition, he was nominated for an Academy Award for best writing on a screenplay written directly for the screen for ‘The Royal Tenenbaums’ in 2001.
Wilson was later transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Los Angeles.
He “is here in good condition,” said spokeswoman Cynthia Harding.
About Lily Allen
Lily Allen is the 21 year old strange glint in her eyes singer/writer who has been tearing up the web at a rate of knots. When she was a young girl- “I was very lonely actually. I went to 13 different schools so never had time to make enduring friendships. Music became a lifeline to me.”
Born in Hammersmith, Lily grew up fast. “I listened to punk, ska and reggae when I grew up, courtesy of my parents’ record collections. We moved around London… Shepherds Bush, Bloomsbury, Islington… and I absorbed all the music around me. I got expelled from various schools and was sent to boarding school as they thought it would be a restraining influence, but I ran away to Glastonbury and other places when I was 14. I was into jungle and drum and bass. It was obvious I didn’t like authority. I guess I knew from an early age that I could never do a job where I’d have to sit in an office all day long.”
Lily finally left school at 15 when it became obvious her creative needs were not being met. “I always read a lot. It was frustrating moving schools so much because I always felt I couldn’t articulate my feelings as much as I wanted to. Books and music helped me do that. I became obsessed by quite arcane subjects, like second world war evacuation stories and books about 18th century aristocracy. I started to feel like I could have a voice. But I wanted to write about my own world in an entertaining way. So I did.”
“Riding through the city on my bike all day
‘Cause the filth took away my license…
Everything seems to look as it should
But I wonder what goes on behind doors
A fella lookin’ dapper and he’s sitting with a slapper
Then I see it’s a pimp and his crack whore”
Lily’s incisive lyrical observations belie her years. “A lot of female artists, and male ones for that matter, are boring singers who don’t say anything. Certainly not to my generation. With the kind of music I do you have to be direct and quite literal. I don’t play an instrument, which really makes me focus on the vocal melody, and the lyrics are incredibly important to me. I don’t want to be part of a scene… the whole idea of that makes me feel sick… and most of the music I listen to is by outsider figures, which is where I feel happiest.”
“There was a little old lady who was walking down the road
She was struggling with bags from Tesco
There were people in the city having lunch in the park
I believe that is called alfresco
Then a kid came along to offer a hand
But before she had time to accept it
Hits her over the head, doesn’t care if she’s dead
‘Cause he’s got all her jewelry and wallet”
Lily’s current listening is not that of an average 20 year old. Even a cursory glimpse at her site shows a breathtaking appreciation of diverse music. Listed amongst a host of current and unsigned dance artists are names like The Specials, Rip Rig and Panic, T.Rex (”possibly the best band ever, ever!”) The Slits, Blondie and Wreckless Eric. Oh, and Kate Bush “when she was my age”, Prince and Eminem.
Lily signed to Parlophone in December. “Since then it’s gone mad. The online support I got for my music grew quickly, then the next thrill was hearing it on the radio. The reaction has been so positive it’s left me reeling a bit. But I’m happy and I know the songs can live up to people’s expectations. I chose to make LDN a low key 7″ release to start things at a decent level also I know that all the songs on the album are so strong that we have loads more singles in the bag.”

Lindsay Lohan reaches deal over charges
Actress Lindsay Lohan reached a deal with prosecutors Thursday, agreeing to serve a one-day jail sentence after pleading no contest to drunk driving charges while admitting to using cocaine in two separate incidents.
The plea deal came the same day that prosecutors charged Lohan with seven misdemeanor counts, stemming from two cases, of using cocaine and driving under the influence.
Lohan, 21, who starred in “The Parent Trap” and “Freaky Friday,” will be placed on probation for three years and serve 10 days of community service. She also must spend at least 30 days in a drug rehabilitation program and complete an 18-month alcohol education program.
Appearing in the Beverly Hills courtroom of Judge H. Chester Horn, Lohan’s attorney, Blair Berk, agreed that her client would plead guilty to two counts of being under the influence of cocaine, no contest to two counts of driving with a blood-alcohol level above 0.08% and one count of reckless driving.
Lohan was not required to appear in court for the misdemeanor charges.
The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office agreed to drop two counts of driving under the influence.
Prosecutors decided not to charge Lohan with felony drug charges because the amount of narcotics involved was less than the standard 0.5 grams. They said Lohan did not receive special treatment.
“She’s getting what everyone else would get,” Deputy Dist. Atty. Danette Meyers said.
Lohan, who is in a Utah rehabilitation facility and must report to jail by Jan. 8, issued her most contrite statement yet.
“It is clear to me that my life has become completely unmanageable because I am addicted to alcohol and drugs,” Lohan said. “Recently, I relapsed and did things for which I am ashamed. I broke the law, and today I took responsibility by pleading guilty to the charges in my case.”
Lohan, who initially denied that she had cocaine in her pocket after her July arrest, said she was determined to turn her life around.
“I am not blaming anyone else for my conduct other than myself,” she said. “I thank God I did not injure others. I easily could have. I very much want to be healthy and gain control of my life and career and have asked for medical help in doing so.”
Lohan was first arrested by Beverly Hills police over the Memorial Day weekend after she lost control of her Mercedes SL65 on Sunset Boulevard, jumped the curb and crashed into some shrubs. The actress left the scene and was taken to Century City Doctors Hospital, where she was eventually tracked down by police and arrested.
Someone also drove her heavily damaged car from the scene of the crash, and police later located it at a nearby condominium complex. A small amount of cocaine was found inside.
Lohan was booked on suspicion of possessing a “usable amount” of cocaine and leaving the scene of an accident, a charge that prosecutors chose not to pursue because the actress sought medical help.
A few days after the incident, Lohan checked into a Malibu drug-rehabilitation center.
On July 24, Lohan was arrested by Santa Monica police after the mother of one of her assistants reported that she was being chased by the actress in her SUV. Cocaine was found in Lohan’s pocket when she was booked into jail.
She was later released on $25,000 bail and promptly checked into a rehab center.

Shaggy criticises spice girl reunion
Reggae star Shaggy has revealed that he is not looking forward to the Spice Girls reunion tour.
The reformed girl band are kicking off a multimillion-pound world tour in December and will bring out a greatest hits album to mark the occasion.
The ‘It Wasn’t Me’ singer said: “I’m not looking forward to it. I didn’t look forward to the first one. I don’t see why I should look forward to the second one.”
He put forward his own theory about the decision to reunite the band, suggesting that Victoria Beckham wanted to give a helping hand to her “broke friends”.
He added: “When she married David Beckham she made a great career choice. I take my hat off to her, but I’m not looking forward to the shows.”

Her first paid job was at the Seattle Repretory theatre at age nine. She loved it and did other local plays and readings. After graduating from the University of Washington in English Literature, she decided to leave for London to work and write, but after filming (the less than wonderful) Lovers Lane (1999) and a short for the Seattle Film Festival, she decided to give Los Angeles a try. She signed with up with a wonderful management agency and before, she could catch her breath, Keenen Ivory Wayans casted her in Scary Movie (2000).
She never takes anything for granted and just feels so very fortunate to have been given a chance.( An example was her trying to thank all the journalists and photographers that came to the New York premiere.)

Personal Quotes
“I try to keep my head on straight and take nothing for granted.”
I don’t really like to go out to clubs or anything. It’s just not my style. I’d much rather go to a dive bar or a local place. I just don’t love feeling awful, having to tell people, “Hi, yeah, I was in Scary Movie (2000). Do you mind if we come in?” I mean, it’s so awkward.
“I never imagined being able to make money from acting - and now I can.”
“They’ve [the Scary Movie series] given me a career but they’ve also sort of boxed me in. What really surprised me when I first moved here is that the industry thought of actors as either comedic or dramatic. And I’m still confused. I understand that maybe some people are better at one or the other, but I can’t understand why it’s so divided. I’ve been able to chip away at that a bit; I think it gets easier as my body of work expands.”
“Blythe Danner is somebody whose career I admire. She’s a great actress and does good work, but also has a life of her own. I love my job but, at the end of the day, I want to come home and watch a movie and drink a bottle of wine with my husband”.
