Spice Girls tour cancelled as Melanie Chisholm quits
The Spice Girls reunion tour will finish earlier than planned after the large amount of UK shows took their toll on the quintet.
A spokesperson for the group yesterday issued a statement explaining that the tour will finish on 26th February in Canada: “Sadly the tour needs to come to an end by the end of February due to family and personal commitments for Emma, Geri, Mel B, Mel C and Victoria.”
“It was announced in June that, as well as the Europe and North America dates, the girls planned to visit Australia, China, South Africa and Argentina.”
“But due to the phenomenal demand for tickets in the UK and US, and the tour’s massive logistics, it was impossible to fit in everything.”
But according to the Sun, the decision was made ultimately made by Melanie Chisholm. An inside source told the newspaper: “Geri and Victoria have been loving the attention and adulation the tour has been bringing the girls in the UK and North America.”
“Mel B has really enjoyed being on stage and performing again. And Emma has found it hard with a young son but was prepared to carry on.”
“But Mel C is the one who always insisted the reunion should be only short-term. Now she wants to go back to doing her own thing.”
“Because they couldn’t all agree, the extra tour dates have been pulled. Touring has been harder on all the girls this time round. But all of them could have been persuaded to continue - apart from Mel C.”
Shaggy criticises spice girl reunion
Reggae star Shaggy has revealed that he is not looking forward to the Spice Girls reunion tour.
The reformed girl band are kicking off a multimillion-pound world tour in December and will bring out a greatest hits album to mark the occasion.
The ‘It Wasn’t Me’ singer said: “I’m not looking forward to it. I didn’t look forward to the first one. I don’t see why I should look forward to the second one.”
He put forward his own theory about the decision to reunite the band, suggesting that Victoria Beckham wanted to give a helping hand to her “broke friends”.
He added: “When she married David Beckham she made a great career choice. I take my hat off to her, but I’m not looking forward to the shows.”
Baby Spice has a baby boy
Emma Bunton, 31, known as Baby Spice during her days with the Spice Girls, and partner Jade Jones’s first baby was born at 11.12am at London’s private Portland Hospital.
“We just had a lovely baby boy,” a beaming Jones said outside the hospital.
“Emma is doing very well … She’s just bonding with baby. We’re over the moon.”
Jones said the first request the singer had following the birth was for Coca-Cola and flapjacks.
Bunton and Jones, a former member of 1990s boy band Damage, have been together for eight years.
Bunton is the latest member of Spice Girls, who announced in June they are reforming for a comeback tour, to give birth.
Mel B had her second daughter, Angel Iris, four months ago, after an affair with Hollywood star Eddie Murphy. She has an eight-year-old daughter, Phoenix Chi, from her former husband, dancer Jimmy Gulzar.
Ginger Spice Geri Halliwell gave birth to her first child, Bluebell Madonna, last year.
Victoria Beckham is mother to Brooklyn, 8, Romeo, 4, and Cruz, 2.
