Spice Girls tour cancelled as Melanie Chisholm quits
The Spice Girls reunion tour will finish earlier than planned after the large amount of UK shows took their toll on the quintet.
A spokesperson for the group yesterday issued a statement explaining that the tour will finish on 26th February in Canada: “Sadly the tour needs to come to an end by the end of February due to family and personal commitments for Emma, Geri, Mel B, Mel C and Victoria.”
“It was announced in June that, as well as the Europe and North America dates, the girls planned to visit Australia, China, South Africa and Argentina.”
“But due to the phenomenal demand for tickets in the UK and US, and the tour’s massive logistics, it was impossible to fit in everything.”
But according to the Sun, the decision was made ultimately made by Melanie Chisholm. An inside source told the newspaper: “Geri and Victoria have been loving the attention and adulation the tour has been bringing the girls in the UK and North America.”
“Mel B has really enjoyed being on stage and performing again. And Emma has found it hard with a young son but was prepared to carry on.”
“But Mel C is the one who always insisted the reunion should be only short-term. Now she wants to go back to doing her own thing.”
“Because they couldn’t all agree, the extra tour dates have been pulled. Touring has been harder on all the girls this time round. But all of them could have been persuaded to continue - apart from Mel C.”
Shaggy criticises spice girl reunion
Reggae star Shaggy has revealed that he is not looking forward to the Spice Girls reunion tour.
The reformed girl band are kicking off a multimillion-pound world tour in December and will bring out a greatest hits album to mark the occasion.
The ‘It Wasn’t Me’ singer said: “I’m not looking forward to it. I didn’t look forward to the first one. I don’t see why I should look forward to the second one.”
He put forward his own theory about the decision to reunite the band, suggesting that Victoria Beckham wanted to give a helping hand to her “broke friends”.
He added: “When she married David Beckham she made a great career choice. I take my hat off to her, but I’m not looking forward to the shows.”
Eddie Murphy orders Melanie Brown to stop talking about him
Eddie Murphy has threatened Melanie Brown with legal action unless she stops using his name in press interviews. The Spice Girl has made frequent references to Eddie in recent interviews, regarding their relationship and his behaviour following the birth of their daughter Angel in April.
Eddie’s lawyer has now issued a cease and desist notice, claiming she has been “disseminating disparaging, negative and defamatory statements” about about the Shrek star and that she is making highly “unreasonable extortionate demands”, such as demanding he buy a multi-million dollar home for her in Malibu.
Melanie recently said she was “kind of appalled” by Eddie’s behaviour since they split up and added that he has yet to pay any child support payments for the baby girl.
Scary Spice: my baby with Eddie Murphy was completely planned
Melanie Brown has insisted that her baby with Eddie Murphy was “completely planned” - which made Eddie’s subsequent behaviour even more painful. She told Essence magazine recently: “This was a completely planned pregnancy. This wasn’t some random, ‘Oops I fell over and I’m pregnant.’ I don’t live my life like that.”
“I’m a responsible parent and have been a responsible single parent since I got divorced [in 1999].”
“As soon as I had my IUD removed we proceeded to get pregnant. It happened quicker than we expected but it was perfect timing.”
Mel was around five months pregnant when Eddie questioned the paternity of the child - and announced the end of their relationship - during a TV interview: “I just didn’t believe it. When I saw it my heart dropped down to my gut.”
“I laughed because that wasn’t the guy that I knew who told me he wanted to have a baby and get married.”
In some ways, the Spice Girl is glad that their relationship didn’t pan out: “There were certain things that went on in his house with his lifestyle that I wasn’t prepared to be a part of.”
“I have a baby with this guy so I have to be somewhat respectful. I’ll simply say that there were lifestyle changes that he would have to make if we were going to live together and do it properly.”
“I have a house where it’s about my kids and me. I don’t have people knocking on my door at 3 and 4 in the morning.”
But she’d like Eddie to take a more active role in their daughter’s upbringing: “Every child deserves to know that they have a mum and a dad, otherwise there’s something missing psychologically. I’m not about to put my daughter through that.”
“He is [involved] with all his other kids and he’s a great dad. Why should this beautiful baby be any different?”
